Telluride & Colorado Climbing Guides
OPHIR ROCK CLIMBING
Antoine and Teri Savelli welcome you to their home at the base of
the Ophir Wall, a 700 foot wall of red and gray, conglomerate granite
that offers steep technical
climbing of 1-6 pitches from 5.3 -5.14. Antoine has pushed standards
to his 'Beyond the Abyss', a 5.15b immediately behind his house/climbing
center Savelli Elite Training Alpinism Corps. The Ophir Wall requires
traditional, sport-climbing and aid techniques, a must for Yosemite's
big walls. Nearby Crack Canyon is a also paradise for beginners, intermediates
and experts alike. The center offers climbing courses from 1 to 5
days for all levels. Emphasis is on autonomy and self rescue, as well
as the many forms of climbing arts including placing protection, sport
climbing, and crack climbing. The center, located near Telluride,
Colorado, offers cool summers at 9600 feet. Camping is available at
the property as well as hearty home cooking and hospitality.
What is included: all courses include rentals (when needed), local transportation (lifts, ground transportation), meals in huts and hut sleep overs as needed as well as community equipment. Otherwise, you are responsible for your own lodging as well as meals outside course events in the various alpine resorts, or if day trips do not require hut sleep overs, lifts, and hut meals. A comprehensive equipment list tailored to your course will be provided as soon as you make your reservation.

SKI
ALPINISM
Ski the peaks of your dreams from powder to corn, from faces to
couloirs: the San Juans have it all! One day ascents, with only
daypacks to carry, will take you to the summits where 3,000 to 5,000
foot, untracked descents await you. The light powder of the San
Juans is legendary, but you need a guide because our snowpack is
unpredictable! Learn to climb quickly and efficiently while learning
about the snow conditions you are about to ski. Some summits that
offer fabulous descents include the 14,000 foot Mt. Wilson, Sneffels,
and the infamous San Joaquin Chute. Our most popular day trip is
between our home in Ophir down Bear Creek to Telluride.
Season: November-July
GREAT
CLIMBS OF THE AMERICAN WEST
The American West has some of the finest rock
climbing in the world in its diversity, magnitude, adventure, and
quality, all within a multitude of cultures: American Indian, Anglo
and Hispanic. The vast reaches of this land give another scale unlike
any other westernized country in the world. We can organize guided
ascents in the Canyonlands, Utah; Red Rocks, near Las Vegas, Nevada;
and Yosemite
Valley, California. From Supercrack (5.10) in Indian Creek, Canyonlands
and Levitation 29 (5.11) in Red Rocks, to the Nose on el Capitan
in Yosemite Valley, your dreams can be fulfilled with a systematic
progression and a fine tuned, customized training program. Yosemite
is the paradise for 'Big Walls' but Antoine can take intermediate
climbers who aspire to the more gentle grades without compromising
all the great views. The best way to explore America's Southwest
is to climb Utah's renowned sandstone towers wile honing crack climbing
techniques on 'Supercrack' and others to close on Yosemite's notoriously
famous El Capitan by the 'Nose' and Half Dome's incomparably beautiful
North West Face 'Classic' route. You won't be disappointed. Indian
vestiges and incredible landscapes are part of Antoine's great 'Southwest
tour'.
